Designed with the Arts and the Community in Mind! The Tassel, designed by The Architect Partnership, Lincoln, Nebraska, was opened to the public for the first time at a ribbon cutting ceremony held on August 22, 1999. With 22,300 square feet of space, there is abundant space for most events.
The theatre auditorium holds seating for 818 individuals, 644 on the main floor and 174 in the balcony. The first eight middle rows and first seven side rows of seats are supplied with convenient fold-up tables for tests or notes during a seminar. There is space for wheel chairs or an additional 18 chairs. The seats are comfortable with generous leg room between rows. The proscenium to the stage is approximately 50' x 20' and opens to a 1700 sq. ft. (50'x 34') stage area. Stage left area has approximately 1020 sq. ft. (30' x 34') less space for storage of the Baldwin Grand Piano. Stage right has approximately 306 sq. ft. (9' x 34') and includes the counter-balance rigging system housed in a 52' fly space. The rigging system includes 40,000 lb. counter balance weights in 10, 20 and 40 lb. bricks. Off stage right has an additional 340 sq. ft. (10' x 34') hall that leads to the dressing room area. The dressing rooms have a convenient direct access to the exterior on the northeast corner of the building. Each large dressing room has room for 15-18 performers, and each small dressing room can hold 1-2 performers. Each dressing room has a sink and costume rack. Across the hall are two restrooms and two shower rooms. The very spacious green room has approximately 920 sq. ft. (27' x 34'), a sink and additional lighted mirror area. Depending upon the needs of the group, this room may be used as a green room, classroom, or intimate dining, reception, or seminar area. The loading dock and scene shop area is ground and stage level for convenient load in/load out. Directly off stage left, there are 10'x 10' wide doors to the stage area, with no steps or elevator necessary.
